Happy “Odyssey” weekend! Where industry projections have it at $90 to $100 million there is a strong possibility it’ll surpass $100 million. I’m so excited for this film and having seen it – it truly lives up to the hype. I’ve linked my review below and I hope you tune in.
However, there is the question if “The Odyssey” will get to one billion. If it manages to then how quickly with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” looming in two weeks. The advantage “The Odyssey” has is its demand for IMAX and IMAX 70MM. It’s sold out for weeks ahead until the end of August in several theatres and it’s a lottery at this point to get in. It’s a joy as a film critic, cinephile and overall lover of film to see the excitement this project is bringing and I do hope we’ll have that yet again with “Dune Part Three” later this year.
Quickly, we “Moana” in its second weekend where I’m expecting a decent drop. It’ll drop like a blockbuster would in the 60% range, but because it underdelivered on its debut the number will be weaker. Lastly we have “Toy Story 5” where I do think it’ll land in the lower teen range, but let’s see how it plays out.
I’ll be doing a post mortem for next weekend because I have a good hunch of “The Odyssey” in its second weekend.
