“I’m mistress of myself” – what a beautifully delivered line by Daisy Edgar Jones in this year’s “Sense and Sensibility” hitting theatres this weekend. I certainly do hope you catch it in cinemas because it is a marvelous adaptation full of wit, charm and heartbreak. We’ve had adaptions before, but 2026’s adaption of Jane Austin’s material delivers a revelation in Esme Creed-Miles who plays Marianne Dashwood. She has the showier role compared to Daisy, but she comes into her own.
Daisy Edgar Jones plays Elinor Dashwood and grounds this film with an elegant performance that expresses a range of emotion just through her eye movement alone. However, it’s in her angier moments that I felt more compelled to her anginush.
Now I don’t want to jump into too much, because my podcast episode gives you my full thoughts ahead of the film but ititss one my favorites of the year so far.
