Nicole's Film Perspectives

An Entertainment Rundown and Box Office Analysis

Nicole’s Film Perspectives is a podcast hosted by Joselyn Nicole. Every week, we go into depth on box office analysis, film reviews and our awards season predications. Never a slow moment for the world of film.

I have watched “Obsession” – that’s the lead in for our box office anaylsis. The box office estimates for this weekend is looking at steady hold for this film. It’s already broken the $100 million worldwide gross within three weekends against a film that was budgeted for $750K. That is an incredible feat and I’m sure that its success will trickle into awards season later in the year. My focus and support goes to Inde Navarrette who leads the charge in this horror film, but is just a brilliant performer that demands to be seen more on the screen. You’ll see my predications below on this film, but I think it’ll come in higher. Also stay tuned for a full review this weekend for “Obsession”.

Another horror entry is “Backrooms” that is meant to over perform this weekend. It’s estimated to bring into anywhere from $40-50 million on the domestic end. The previews totaled $10.4 million for Thursday which means that number should be now boosted to at least a $75 million opening. It’s an amazing feature for Kane Parsons’ directorial debut and a crowning moment for Renate Reinsve who’s about to blow up as a commercial movie star.

“Michael” is looking at another strong weekend as well and has already crossed into the $800 million global total is climbing its way to surpass “Bohemian Rhapsody”, but can it get to one billion? I think there’s a solid shot it’ll surpass it by mid-June.

Another two releases we have are “Pressure” and “Tuner”. I’ll be seeing “Pressure” over the weekend which stars Brendan Fraser, Andrew Scott and Kerry Condon. It’s a World War II feature that encapsulates the 72 hours leading up to D-Day. Its projected totals are looking in the higher single digits. For “Tuner”, I’ll be posting up a review over the weekend, but I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity to do so. It’s a beautiful clash of thriller-esque, romance and musical composed feature that highlights stars Leo Woodall and Havana Liu Rose beautifully.

Lastly, do not underestimate “The Breadwinner” starring Nate Bargatze and Mandy Moore. It’s estimate to do in the high single digits or potentially cross the $10 million domestic opening. I wouldn’t be surprised if it over performs similar to “The Sheep Dectectives”.

Next weekend we’ve got “Scary Movie 6” so get ready for those predications!
