Nicole's Film Perspectives

An Entertainment Rundown and Box Office Analysis

Nicole’s Film Perspectives is a podcast hosted by Joselyn Nicole. Every week, we go into depth on box office analysis, film reviews and our awards season predications. Never a slow moment for the world of film.

Post mortem on a lively box office! “Michael” jsut reigned supreme at the box office yet again and it’s crossed $700 million worldwide and counting. There’s also the fact we have it releasing in Japan on June 12th where it’s expected to perform strongly. Can it get to one billion? I think it might and quicker than “Super Mario Brothers Galaxy”.

Now “Mortal Kombat 2” took a major dive this past weekend and it’s expected to lose a lot of screens next holiday weekend. Why? We have the debut of “The Mandalorian and Grogu” hitting across 4,300 screens and we’re going to see showings decrease for recent film releases.

Next we have the surprise of the season, but “Obsession” is the belle of the ball. It over performed at a grand total of $17 million. I’m beyond thrilled it landed over the estimates, but let’s see if it can hold strongly next weekend.

Next we have the king of the box office – “Michael” and it’s not stopping anytime soon. I was thrilled on being on par with the predication, but I’m beyond impressed that even with the decrease of showtimes during the day for this film it’s still full. The buzz and demand for a sequel for this film seems inevitable, but we have to see how two factors pan out. The first factor would be how it does during awards season. The second factor is how Lionsgate Studios will fast track this sequel.

Now for “The Sheep Detectives” not only did it perform on par where I had it in predications, but it’s soaring. There wasn’t a lot of showtimes for this film, but then “Mortal Kombat 2” started to loose screens and being given to “The Sheep Detectives” because of the demand. As someone who’s seen the film, I can say I was genuinely wrong. It’s a fabulous film that pulls on the heartstrings and has no business being this well constructed. I was throughly surprise how well developed the story was, the voiceover work was impeccable and Hugh Jackman was extremely well used in this film. I’m glad I was proven wrong at how well received this film came in at and I’m expecting it to be a juguraunot once it hits streaming.

Let’s see how next week turns out heading into the holiday, but I have a sickly feelings that our leftovers from May are going to outshine “The Mandalorian and Grogu”. Let’s see how it pans out, but I’m expecting a simmered fire for this film’s debut.
