The weekend before Cinemacon hits and the anticipation is building! We have the pre-summer box office looming and Cannes Film Festival made the announcement lineup today! Please check out my episode, but we’re packed! However, who’s taking the box office this upcoming weekend? It’s a Mario!
“The Super Mario Galaxy” movie is looking to claim another week at the box office with the tale end of Spring Break! The kids are out and they’re wanting Mario, but how good will this hold be? I’m thinking it’s the mid-50’s territory and I’m optimistic that it’s going to be soaring up in the worldwide total with the release of Japan looming. It’s going to boost up the overall box office quite healthily.
Next, we have the new entry that’s a bit of counter programming with rom-con “You Me & Tuscany” that I hope will break 10 million this weekend. The word of mouth is excellent on this film and holding well in the 70’s in Rottenn Tomatoes. I’m excited for both Halle and Rege, but this is a big test to see if they can bring the audience in. I’m excited to see it tomorrow and you’ll have my review up on Saturday!
Now, “The Drama” is in a grey zone because I do think it can have a solid hold of 50% because it’s great counter programming against “Super Mario” but I also see it dipping it into the 60% drop area due to the mix reactions that audiences have had to the film. However, “Project Hail Mary” is expected to have another strong hold and is looking at a very minimal drop next weekend because of its return to IMAX screens. There are even some theaters sneaking in IMAX showings this weekend already. Go see it!
Let’s see if my projections hit or do you have any further thoughts on where this box office can go?
Stay tune for the results and check out my predications!
