Happy Easter! Weekend 14 of the box office. We’re looking at a mega sized box office with Mario and Luigi coming into play. I’m expecting a minimum $300 million worldwide debut by the time this holiday weekend is done. I posted my three day predications as normal, but the numbers will remain high.
I did see “The Super Mario Galaxy” movie on Monday and throughly enjoyed it! Is it as good as the first one? No. However, it is enjoyable and a get callback of a gamer’s heart. Its visuals are stunning, we get a shift to Princess Peach and Princess Rosalina’s story, enhanced shenanigans and Easter eggs to keep you on your toes. I’m expecting this film to skyrocket to $1 billion at a stellar rate.
Additionally, we have “Project Hail Mary” entering its third weekend and I see the potential for a single number drop percentage at the box office, if not a potential increase due to the good word of mouth and demand of this film. It’s so popular that it already has a rerelease IMAX date for April 16th to 22nd and is planning additional rereleases on premiums formats throughout the year. Sound familiar? “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” followed the same route. I expected to see “Project Hail Mary” in the awards conversation sooner rather than later.
Next we have “The Drama” which I’m heading to see in a few minutes and will post my review up no the podcast. I’m expecting a strong debut for this film that has been catching a lot of heat – both good and bad. However, I think Zendaya and Robert Pattinson have a strong hit in their hands in delivering in the smaller market for A24 and could work its way up on the overall box office if it can cross $100 million worldwide by the end of its run.
Let’s see if my projections hit or do you have any further thoughts on where this box office can go?
Stay tune for the results and check out my predications!
