Nicole’s Film Perspectives is a podcast hosted by Joselyn Nicole. Every week, we go into depth on box office analysis, film reviews and our awards season predications. Never a slow moment for the world of film.
It was expected that “Toy Story 5” was to rule the box office again and it did with a fantastic $70.8 million weekend at the domestic box office. However, the real conversation is the unfortunate debut of “Supergirl”.
Firstly, let’s discuss the success of “Toy Story 5” crossing over $585 million globally in its second weekend and will continue to grow over the next upcoming weeks. My only worry is that “Minions & Monsters” might slow the progression to one billion, but it won’t stop it. Even though it came in under my range of predications its still a phenomenal hold for a blockbuster at 55% drop.
What’s not so great is “Supergirl” and its very poor debut at $37 million and it’s not looking any brighter. Granted even though I’m not disliking the film compared to general audience I had strong issues with it. My thoughts stay the same on Milly Alcock being a knockout and strongly casted as Kara Zor-El. She’s the film’s strongest point, but it’s everything around her that needs to be worked on. I’m expecting a staggering drop next weekend for this film and I don’t know if can even reach the $200 million global range. It’s a shame because as I said Milly is wonderful, but the film is a disservice for her and the Supergirl moniker.

Next is “Jackass : Best and Last” which actually came in at half of what I predicted. It’s shame because the entry was a fun goodbye, but the audience interest was not strong. I think it being its last film in the franchise is time for its next iteration potentially in the streaming space.
Lastly, once again “Obsession” is keeping that third spot and going in brightly at $9 million for is seventh weekend and finally hitting digital TODAY! I do hope you catch it because it’s one of my favourite films of the year so far. Check out box office predications coming tomorrow!
Here’s my review “Supergirl” leading to the podcast episode: “Supergirl” Review!
Milly is a knockout! She zooms in on Kara’s essence and soars with both the lighter and darker moments. She’s relatable, tough and melancholic. There’s no delineation of who Kara should be, but excels as someone who’s experienced tragedy and is making the best of her… pic.twitter.com/pW52JpyQIa
