Happy “Toy Story 5” Weekend! What a weekend it was! We have our post moretuem for the box office and I’m very happy to see that this film was able to break $312 million internationally and will most likely break into the billion dollar club.
Granted my number domestically for “Toy Story 5” came in slightly lower, but it still did exceptionally well. I had $167 million versus the $160 million debut it had. I still take that as a win because it has the biggest opening of the year so far until “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and ” Avengers Doomsday” arrives. Please catch my “Toy Story 5” review below!
Now what does pain me is “Disclosure Day” because I ended up being right – it made $17 million and that’s exactly in my range. I knew it was heading for 60% drop for its second weekend and it was so. For a typical blockbuster that’s fine, but because it had a less than stellar opening it’s a real setback in seeing this film getting anywhere near $350 million at its global box office after its theatrical run.
“The Death of Robin Hood” completely veered off path – it landed 8th in the box office with a $2.8 million domestic debut. That’s a very underwhelming debut for A24 studios and Hugh Jackman. I did watch the film and have my review in my latest podcast episode, but I did struggle to see how to was going to connect commercially for box office audience.
Lastly, for “Obsession” that keeps defying box office history its currently at the third spot of the box office with $13.3 million in tis sixth weekend at the box office. It’s incredible with what it’s been able to do and will surpass “Sinners” in the box office totals as I’ve been saying. I can’t wait for awards season to arrive to dive into the breakdown of this film’s chances.
