“Toy Story 5” is here! What a delightful surprise with this wonderful entry into the franchise. It manages to capture the magic of the “Toy Story” brand and fires on all cylinders. Is it perfect? No. However, it’s a must see and a return to the world of toys.
I have my podcast review below for the film where I go into depth on my thoughts, but I love this film. You’re never too old for “Toy Story” and I grew up with the property and it’ll always have a soft spot for it. Hope you tune in below!
We have our main core of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack returning and leading the charge. I really them stepping back into the shoes of the characters we love. It doesn’t skip a beat, but rather we have a very timely film balancing the scales on the digital era we’re in. It manages to have commentary on both sides of the benefits and hiccups of technology, but it doesn’t feel preachy. It’s screenplay and messaging is actually sharp, witty and manages to tie in the elements of nostalgia that will draw you back in.
Also we have Taylor Swift’s new song “I Knew It, I Knew You” is a wonderful inclusion in the film and I wouldn’t be surprised if it leads the charge during awards season for Best Original Song. However, I’m more than confident we have a strong contender for possibly a win for Best Animated Feature this upcoming awards season as well.
