“Brunello: The Gracious Visionary” Review

Had the opportunity to see a slice of life with “Brunello: The Gracious Visionary”.  It’s a glimpse of fashion visionary, Brunello Cucinelli. If you’re in New York there’s actually a display for Brunello’s work at Saks Fifth Avenue highlighting some beautiful luxury pieces of his collection. However, this documentary gives us a glimpse of Brunello’s life and his start of his beginning in the fashion world. It roots at the beginning of his life in Perugia, Italy and his life as an entrepreneur. 

Directing at the helm is Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore whose name should be familiar from his iconic “Cinema Paradiso”. Tornatore does a marvelous job in highlighting and embracing Brunello’s craft but it can feel a bit lengthy at its runtime over a little two hours. What is a highlight during the film is seeing testimonials from fellow pillars of success such as Oprah Winfrey who highlights Brunello in a strong light. 

The structure of the film itself is really coursing through Brunello’s life and seeing how his struggling beginnings really shaped where he went in his path. Director Tornatore is able to utilize Brunello as a narrator for his story and really glimpse into his choices of luxury and design without a hesitating moment. However, prepare yourselves for the fact it may feel tunneled at times knowing how Brunello Cucinelli puts himself on a pedestal that is quite difficult to chip off. While inspiring it can feel a bit one noted knowing that there is more on the table to see with him, but we’re only get a limited scope through his voice.
