e’re here! Finally we have our season finale of “Widow’s Bay” because it’s been renewed for season two! I couldn’t be happier! I don’t want to give too many heavy spoilers away. I’ll be doing that on my podcast episode tomorrow so please tread lightly on the light spoilers below.
I’ve checked in a t the beginning, midpoint and now the finale for this show and it’s only gotten better. I couldn’t be more impressed with our cliffhanger, but with our focal characters Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), Patricia (Kate O Flynn) and Wyck (Stephen Root).
Now what started off with Mayor Loftis as a Mayor of doubt, we’ve accepted that Widow’s bay is seriously messed up. There’s no doubting this island is cursed and if you don’t believe then go rewatch the season.
Now Mayor Tom Loftis tried to desaude the locals of Widow’s Bay that the island did not have any of those misfortunes in order to get tourism on the island up. However, we see that from episode nine with the wonderful inclusion of Hamish Linklater portraying Richard Warren that has caused a lot of havoc o the island. Warren made a pact with a demonic entity in order to protect Widow’s Bay and wipe out his bloodline because Warren is the founder of Widow’s Bay.
However, Tom, Patricia and Wyck find out that Warren’s bloodline is still active with Ruth. The discussion of whether to kill Ruth or not is wicked to see between the trio. Patricia is against it while Wyck and Tom think it would be in benefit for Widow’s Bay. It ends with Tom agreeing to go to Ruth and killing her at her home. However, in the midst of this we have a storm that’s sweeping the town in the background.
Now I can’t dive into the rest of the episode without giving some major plot points so I’ll rephrase it as best as possible.
We see our beloved Mayor go through the wringer discovering the truth of Warren’s bloodline through Ruth’s confession. It’s a brutal one that not only impacts Tom directly, but leads to decisions that are left in the air as the season concludes with Tom and his son Evan during back home. Now one thing to keep in mind that Warren’s bloodline isn’t the only issue that’s causing havoc in this town and whatever lies beneath is yet another layer of why Widow’s Bay is a messy place to reside.
