One of my favourite times of the year is this weekend with the date of the 12th. What brings me more joy? The fact the newest Spielberg film starring one of favourite actresses – Emily Blunt. It’s a perfect recipe. Please make sure to check out my podcast review linked below! I go into depth with as little spoilers as possible, but I did enjoy this film that came right into my projections for the box office at $44 million compared to my predications of $47 million.
Now what didn’t please me was the fact it landed with a B Cinemascore which isn’t ideal if you want strong legs at the box office. However, “Disclosure Day” at least managed to open up worldwide at $92.9 million which is a stronger debut than the project estimate of the $65 million range. I do hope you have the opportunity to see the film because it’s a career best performance from Emily Blunt and should be considered during awards season.
Next we have “Masters of the Universe” that sadly had an awful drop. I was hopefully it would at least stay in the double digits, but it came at $8.66 million which results in a 70% drop. As I said last week this film is great and stellar performances from Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes and Idris Elba. Amazon MGM will hopefully have a better results in the streaming market in this film, but it should’ve been a stronger box office competitor.
“Obsession” came in strong yet again and exactly on my targeted projections go $19 million! This film continues to defy expectations and I’m excited to catch it again in cinemas. Also we got an update that Focus Features will officially campaigning the film but the question is how will it be campaigned? I have ideas…this Wednesday’s episode will focus on our awards update!
Lastly, for “Scary Movie 6” we have it at $14.2 million in its second weekend which resulted in a 73% drop. I was correct on the film not having a repeatedly factor, but that drop was deeper than Ghostface’s scythe. It was front loaded, but with its stellar opening weekend it more than makes up for it.
Let’s see how big “Toy Story 5” will be this week but I got a box office analysis coming in soon!
