Nicole's Film Perspectives

An Entertainment Rundown and Box Office Analysis

Nicole’s Film Perspectives is a podcast hosted by Joselyn Nicole. Every week, we go into depth on box office analysis, film reviews and our awards season predications. Never a slow moment for the world of film.

Being the solo camp of enjoying “Masters of the Universe” has been painful. What’s worse? Its box office debut was dismal ay $29.3 million against a $200 million production. It’s a shame because it taps into the root of enjoyment for the property, but it didn’t reach the large net audience it needed. My post-mortem today is for both “Masters of the Universe” and “Scary Movie 6” that did manage to debut solidly and on expectation.

“Scary Movie 6” opened to $55 million against my estimate of $52 million which is fantastic for the film to surpass expectation. However, will it have a strong second weekend or are we looking at a heavy drop next weekend? Having seen the film myself I have to say it works as an event film for the opening weekend but it’s repeatedly factor isn’t strong.

“Obsession” came in strong with $25.3 million and above my number, but I was in sight. It only had a 7.3% drop in the first time during its four week tenure. I’m expecting it to hold yet again strong next weekend, but I’ll be damned if this film doesn’t enter and be a focal point during awards season.

Lastly, I have “Power Ballad” on the docket and it completely fell off from my radar. It only debuted to $1.2 million this past weekend. Even though it had a smaller wide release of 1,275 theatres its per theatre average is quite low at $1,010. I enjoyed the film, but I do see the perspective where it feels to small for the big screen.

Now let’s get ready for our next post mortem because it’s for one of my most anticipated film of the year: “Disclosure Day”.
