Nicole's Film Perspectives

An Entertainment Rundown and Box Office Analysis

Nicole’s Film Perspectives is a podcast hosted by Joselyn Nicole. Every week, we go into depth on box office analysis, film reviews and our awards season predications. Never a slow moment for the world of film.

We had a rainy weekend of box office on the East Coast! Which means we should have a heavier box office than usual, but we floated across the finish line rather than soar. I predicted “The Mandalorian and Grogu” wouldn’t do $100 million or higher in the four day weekend. That prediction came true with it debuting at $98 million.

“Star Wars” in general has a lot of work to do in this uphill battle, but debuting under $100 million does put it in heavier favor of a bigger drop next weekend. However, where Mando and Grogu stumbled you had “Obsession” soar with a 30% increase in the box office. It’s going to be in the top five of the box office for a good while.

“Michael” also had a spectacular weekend bringing in over $20 million in its fifth weekend and is climbing faster up the worldwide chart. It’s currently looking at surpassing $800 million by the weekend. Is there a chance it could get to one billion? I do. It’ll either come kissing at a billion or slightly over it. Let’s see how “Michael” plays throughout the rest of its run, but it still had some international markets to hit which means we’re only getting started.

Now for our last film we have “I Love Boosters” starring Keke Palmer. The reception on this film has been generally positive and having seen it myself I can honestly say it’s a pity we don’t have more of Keke on the big screen. I do think this film will become more of a cult classic in the next few years, but its a strong entry in Palmer’s filmography between the solid run of “One of Them Days”, “The ‘Burbs” and now “I Love Boosters”.

We have next weekend to look forward to with newcomer Kane Parsons looking to make a big splash next weekend with “Backrooms”. Can it outgross “The Mandalorian and Grogu” in its second weekend? I think there’s a solid chance.
