Let’s do our post mortem today for our box office. Wanting to see how the numbers fell out, but I’m relieved to see how wonderful the box office is alive. The summer is off to a booming start and that’s more joy for anyone wanting to see success in this industry where things can fell shaky.
Talking about shaky, we see “The Devil Wears Prada 2” came under projections, but not by a huge margin. It did wonderful and outperformed overseas where my predications more accurately reflected overseas. One of these days I should consider doing both international and domestic, but step by step. Now when talking about accuracy my closest one is $54 Million domestic weekend for “Michael” this weekend and I talk it as a huge win. I think this shows that it’s going to be hold well into the next few week now even with the lost of premium screens coming up next weekend.
Now for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” it did come in significantly lower than my projection, but slightly below industry where they had it at the $85 million mark. However, the overseas numbers are excellent. It debuted with $155.6 million this weekend and it launched the film with a $233.6 million worldwide total. It’s an excellent start to what appears to be a strong box office summer ahead. I’m absolutely giddy to see where the cards will fall, but I feel like multiple box office billion dollar hits are incoming.
However, with billion dollar films incoming we have one film that’s already crossed in the $900 million dollar territory. “Super Mario Galaxy” Movie is doing excellent, but is mirroring the “A Minecraft Movie” where it finished at $960 million which is still a win.
Lastly, we’re highlighting “Project Hail Mary” which has surpassed “The Martin” in box office. It’s continuing to climb and I’m so pleased for this film that deserves its accolades and will be within the awards conversation.
I’ll have my box office predications up for “Mortal Kombat” and “Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)” later midweek! Stay tuned!
