Third weekend of 2026 and we’re still running high! “The Housemaid” is about to cross into $200 million worldwide box office. It’s an incredible feature for Lionsgate and with a greenlit sequel we’ll be seeing more of this property. However, we do have a new release to look at: “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”.
Can ‘Bone Temple’ break the record of ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ in its opening weekend? By the looks of its projections it’ll either squeak by or have a up to 25% higher box office than ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ this weekend. What was originally projected in the trades for the box office a few weeks ago was closer to a $30 million opening, but it has slide down. It’s still tracking for a $20 million opening now, but can it at least break into the mid twenty range?
We also have to see how ‘Primate’ plays into its second weekend because of ‘Bone Temple’ entering into the horror scene, but can it have a healthy hold even though its opening was in the low teens last weekend?
Also keep an eye out for ‘Zootopia 2’ because by the end of the month we can getting closer to a $2 billion finish.
Lastly, we have a forecast for “Withering Heights” coming up this Valentine’s Day and as I mentioned at the end of December on the podcast we’re looking at potentially a $30 million opening weekend. This would be Jacob Elordi’s biggest opening debut and with the potential Oscars nominations coming that can serve as an extra boost to the project. We’ll keep an eye out for it.
Stay tune for my spoiler review tomorrow and Oscars Nomination Predications on Saturday!
Let’s see if my projections hit or do you have any further thoughts on where this box office can go?
